LEAD IT Summer Symposium

Panel Discussion with Jim Moulton & David Warlick
|
The participants of this panel discussion viewed the Robin Sloan & Matt Thompson video, EPIC 2015, about the history of information landscape from 1992 to 2015. Afterward, participants were encouraged to thinking about and then answer these three questions: Of children who are in the 5th grade today, who will be graduating from high school in 2015,
To the left is the transcript of their online brainstorming of these questions. |
Characteristics of School 2.0
Reported back and discussed by attendees
- Expand on learning opportunities that come from personal interest of students and the broader interest of the classroom. Consider classroom time and even curriculum to be flexible. Interest becomes a learning commodity to spent on learning experiences or wasted.
- A critical part of being a teacher is practicing and demonstrating the skills of a master-learner. We admit, regularly, that we don't know the answer and say, "How are we going to find the answer to that question?" even when we do know the answer.
- Support, promote, and design learning as a social process, both in computer/networked activities and face-to-face, leveraging both personal and digital methodologies.
- Recognize that teaching and learning in the 21st century necessitates robust and dependable access to content and the tools to work that content. School 2.0 guarantees access to the global network for all teachers and learners any where and any time.
- Foster awareness of a global learning community and experiences, making access to peole and resources around the world, a ubiquitous element of every classroom and assignment.
- Foster continual interactive involvement with the local community through projects that connect teachers and learners with all aspects of their immediate environment.
