(Return to K12online 2006)
I just listened to the keynote and I tried to take notes in a free graphic editor that I am trying called FreeMind. When I tried to figure out how to make what a large graphic map into something I could put here I found the outline that it created: Information
* Has lost it's straight way of getting to us.
o location doesn't matter
o Time doesn't matter
- they matter, they just aren't the barrier that they use to be.
- K-12 Online Conference
o Different than other Conferences
o + - Learn from teaching each other
+ It doesn't matter where you are or when you are.
+ Engaging is necessary.
+ Contribute to others.
- It's work, but it is as much about imagination and personality as it is about content and communication. -- it is fun!
o How to collaborate in the conference
+ Learn by engaging in conversation.
+ Keep notes on a wiki page.
+ landmark.project.com/k12online create your own wikipage here
+ Blog your insights
# Make your blog available to others.
* Tool for putting tag on blog in wiki!
o tool creates code for tags!!
+ Hitchhikr-tool to keep track of other conferences.
o An event where we can learn by communicating in powerful ways.
* Difference between rail and going on your own.
o Metaphor for what we are teaching and learning
+ Foundation is the side trips
+ Curriculum is important. but not the main thing.
- I had a hard part with this while I was talking off the cuff. What I wish I had said was that what defines the classroom (formal education) experience should be the sidetrips. The rails are important. They are essential. But that shouldn't be what we think of as the classroom. That shouldn't be the part of learning that we remember years later. What we should remember are the sidetrips ;-)
- Future Success
o People who are special
o People who are adaptable.
I am very excited about collaborating and learning. The one question I have is HOW am I going to keep up with so many interesting insights. It is great to be able to find it all through technorati and tags, blogs and wikis, but how does anyone have time to read and absorb it?
Hey! You do the best you can. Part of keeping up is realizing that there's more to keep up with. As for how, you're already doing it. You participate in the conversation.
