Welcome to David Warlick's CoLearners Wiki -- Powered by PmWiki!
|
This is an experiment. I've used wikis as an aid in many of my workshops in the past, but the engine that I used was very barebones. Looking for something more feature rich, I dove into MediaWiki, the engine that runs Wikipedia and its companions. Needless to say, it took me to new levels of appreciation for the potential of this technology, especially as a teaching and learning environment.
However, I wanted to push farther by hacking some of my own functionality. I quickly learned that MediaWiki, as a programming environment was far too complex for my meager coding skills. So I switched to PMWiki, developed by Patrick Michaud, an open source software developer and consultant in the Dallas - Fort Worth area. The features are nearly equal to Media Wiki, but the archetectures is much simpler, and sublime, if I might use that word to describe a programming environment.
Here, I am able to explore, a little more, the use of wikis for teaching and for learning.
A very special thank you for everyone who nominated CoLearners as Best wiki in the 2006 EduBlog Awards.
