Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:35:21
I can't see using much of this information in a kindergarten/ grade one classroom.
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:36:15
The universities need to rethink how they prepare educators with more information on technology
kris (ab) • 2009-03-09 15:36:35
k/gr. 1 kids need more interactivity as visual learners...it is possible!
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:36:39
When we have a full day off for PD with no presenters, we will collaborate and figure out how to use this information to teach the curriculum.
kris (ab) • 2009-03-09 15:37:00
Young kids need to have the real world brought into the classroom

Tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:38:08
We need to work on bringing more fine arts into schools.
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:38:24
as elementary teachers ... do we need to have a stronger knowledge in a single subject area to be able to support one another int he community
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:38:28
how can the students be encouraged to become partners with the teachers when using technology?
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:39:32
Smartboard is effective in the younger grades.
kris (ab) • 2009-03-09 15:39:38
Just give it to them
Anton (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:40:20
If teachers listen to their students, the students won't need to be encouraged to become partners
Lisa Nachtigal (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:40:40
we have a SWAT team - Students Willing To Assist with Technology... they love the chance to help and teachers love the assistance
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:41:29
It would be nice to have funding to support the technology we are supposed to be using and maintain it.
Tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:41:45
It is a no-brainer that we need to go here, but how?
Tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:41:57
Baby steps, a few strategies at a time
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:43:36
I don't just want to go play - I want to be told where to start (with implementing all of these ideas) -guide me initially and then I can fly
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:44:13
Isn't that what consultants are for?
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:04
Yes
Karen (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:05
Isn't that what children are for? A Child will lead the way...
Tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:16
But I think that we need to play along with the implementation.
Shane (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:25
my 2 year old's avalible...
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:38
this isn't just about consultants....this is also about teachers being empowered to take risks, to share openly what they are doing, to be willing to ask good questions and search for answers as well
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:45:57
it's about time.....
Shane (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:01
I've found the best way is to give a base, teach teachers a few tools, and then let them play for a bit.
Jen (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:25
I agree karen - and my 8 year old too can help
Shane (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:26
time is the most crucial part
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:33
it's about good teaching practices...
Shane (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:38
And the hardest to find
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:46:50
it's about sharing what we know...
Lisa Nachtigal (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:47:05
give teachers a few things to play with, and let them get comfortable... staff sharing sessions allow them to take ownership and help eachother
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:51:44
yes but I could spend hours playing without getting anywhere so if someone is able to narrow down this time frame and guide me initially I will feel more empowered in my classroom
Lisa Nachtigal (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:52:44
we had a PD day earlier this year where the morning was guided smartboard instruction, and the pm was teacher time with an expert in the school to travel
Lisa Nachtigal (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:52:53
around from teacher to teacher for support
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:53:29
that was helpful but not enough time
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:55:29
a key point was that we need to teach our kids to teach themselves, so do we not need to teach our teachers how to teach themselves in this new digital age
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:56:40
teachers need time to teach themselves
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 15:58:10
collaboration will be key
Arlene (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:00:01
commit to try
Debbie (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:00:05
collaboration
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:00:09
Action: embrace technology instead of fighting against it
Arlene (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:00:28
impart information
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:00:51
Action: ask pertinent questions, teach strategies
Arlene (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:01:00
admit I don't know everything
pat (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:01:06
action: learn to collaborate in different ways...digitally across schools and districts... mirror the students' world
Louise (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:01:09
Time to learn, time to implement, time to share.
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:01:37
you don't integrate technology you integrate literacy - an important point to reflect on
Debbie (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:01:51
need to figure out what we are teaching - addressing the curriculum
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:02:41
you don't find information, you have to set it up so it finds you
Glenora (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:03:22
being literate isn't just reading
Tanya (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:04:38
action - invest in technologies that help us work with our current technologies better e.g. headsets, extenders...
andrew (CN) • 2009-03-09 16:04:44
literally
tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:06:02
Interactive classrooms are interactive because of the way the teacher thinks, not because of the technology.
Mark (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:07:40
Action: give information in a number of formats - UDL - video, streaming, Smartboard, audio
andrew (CN) • 2009-03-09 16:07:57
make more use of chat and blog like tools
Shane (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:09:50
Google Apps!
Debbie (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:10:03
setting up delicious and flickr and an rss feed
tim (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:13:57
I'm thinking I'm done thinking.
Tanya (AB) • 2009-03-09 16:14:51
we should have a tech support person in every school -- better still, a technology coach -- to encourage risk-takers, and to provide hand-holding for more cautious teachers
Lyndon (AB) • 2009-03-09 17:48:38
Anyone still here?
