From Greg, re: Saturday:
We need to confirm a few details of the day in Dunedin on the 24th Feb:
I am envisaging a 9am to 3pm day in three slots (9-10:30 ish, 11-12:30ish, 1:15-3pm-ish)
beginning with overview and looking at RSS; changes with new technologies, nature of knowledge etc; collaborative focus of knowledge creation; web2.0; 'flat classroom' concept; information literacy; and so on. Moving into wikis and blogging (as practical examples) in more detail and ways they can support class programmes and the things described above as well as essential tools and supports for professional learning. Then finishing with a time for questions (maybe last 30-40minutes?)
I am anticipating the audience will be mixed and many of them will be new to your content. There will be a few who will have heard of wikis, blogs etc but of the ones registered that I know so far only a couple are bloggers for instance. Few will know of aggregators or wikis. I am anticipating the audience will be about 50 people.
A goal for me is that people are motivated and upskilled to try things you discuss in their classrooms the next week so practical ideas and examples will be well received. I will have all our teaching staff there and as an example I have teachers who are comfortable with web browsing, use hyperlinked planning etc but use few on-line resources and no Web2.0 tools (about 1/3 of the staff) and the rest range from 'basic' to those who have to be told to bring and turn their laptops on and need to be supported to find specific links/url's. (are you aware that all NZ teachers are given a heavily subsidized laptop by our Ministry of Education?)
We will be wireless and have pretty good internet access speeds (for NZ).
I am more than happy to pick you up from the airport on the Friday afternoon - my new school is only 15min from the airport. And you are welcome to join Jane, our kids (our 8 and 10year old - girl and boy) and I for the evening meal if you would like. This is a genuine offer but if you would like to chill out in your hotel room away from people to talk to I DO understand! LOL .... just have a think and let me know.
