This Web site is dedicated to the idea that the very nature of information is changing, practically before our eyes. It is changing in what it looks like, where we find it, what we look at to view it, what we can do with it, and how we communicate it. Here you will find information and tools designed to help us redefine literacy for the 21st Century.

The Web has changed dramatically since Landmarks for Schools was launched in 1995. Then, virtually all of the content was published by organizations. Today, an increasingly portion of the Web's contention that people are using, is published by individuals who are sharing something that they care about. Here I have posted a number of widgets the mine this new social web and provide glimpses of the global conversation -- at this minute.

My Books

Through my books, I try to provide mix of vision -- a new story about teaching, learning, and schooling in the 21st century -- and practical techniques for helping student learning by making them workers of content -- information artisans. The first book, Raw Materials for the Mind (4th ed), is a self-published exploration of technology integration issues, focused collaboration, digital content, and communication. My second book, Redefining Literacy (2nd ed), was published by Linworth Publishing, and examines our notions about literacy within the context of a networked, digital, and info-abundant environment. My latest book, Classroom Blogging (2nd ed), was written no only to acquaint educators with the instructional potentials of blogging, but to better understand the broader social information environment that is still emerging.
