Episode 76 — the NCETC EduBloggerCon
December 4th, 2006
Last week was the North Carolina Educational Technology Conference (NCETC). I presented a number of brand new topics and also some new concepts in conference sessions, including a Web 2.0 Conversation (attendees talked about and demonstrated their favorite Web 2.0 applications), and an NCETC EduBloggerCon, a conversation between blogging educators in North Carolina bout their experiences and what the believe is happening when students (and teachers) blog.
This is a recording of most of that conversation. It is rather long, so listen to as much of it as you like, and then come back later for the rest.
Joe Poletti was kind enough to not only participate in the conversation, but also to take notes around six questions that we agreed on early in the discussion. The Questions were:
- What is the experience of blogging with students — Privacy Concerns?
- How Young can you have students blogging — keyboarding?
- How do you pull folks along?
- What are some of the software applications?
- What can you do with blogs that we couldn’t do with traditional writing assign?
- How do blogs influence the writing process?
Joe’s notes are available online.

[…] There were about 10 of us there, all of whom are bloggers. I recorded the conversation, and have just posted it as a Connect Learning podcast. If you subscribe to Connect Learning, the audio should be on its way. You can listen and read the blog by going to the Connect Learning blog site. […]

David:
Thanks for sharing the notes from the EdublogCon. I wasn’t able to attend that session and found the discussion every helpful.
I also took notes on the different sessions I attended. If anyone is interested in seeing them, you can access my blog and link to my wiki.

Who was the educational gaming expert you were talking about? I’d love to check out his sight and pick his brain, great episode.

[…] Using blogs to solicit student involvement has been gradually coming on over the past couple of years. Today I listened to a great conference discussion about student blogs on David Warlick’s Connect Learning that really summed up the efforts nicely. I highly recommend that anyone thinking about using blogs in student curriculum listen to this. It is a little more than an hour long, but very worth the effort. […]
