Embedding Cooliris

I got up this morning, fully intending to do some serious work. Instead, I found that several of my Firefox plugins needed updating, including Cooliris — and scanning through the subsequent Cooliris “Here’s what’s New” page, I discovered that you can embed photo galleries into your web pages and include the cool swishing functions. This may not be new, but it’s the first that I’ve run across it — and I’ve been tweeking my blogs since. I really do need the rest from “serious work.”

In tinkering with Cooliris on my MacBook Pro, I stumbled upon what I feel it THE feature to share with my 400 middle school students and teachers: Cooliris Styled Presentations. Using Keynote to create a presentation and then Exporting the slides as JPEG files into an iPhoto folder. The Export automatically numbers the images, with no spaces in the file name to confuse Cooliris. The result is awesome. One tip, when setting up Keynote, use the smallest format, I tried 1024X780 and it works better than a larger version. This new project folder can then be accessed in the Safari browser with Cooliris added.
