I really liked this post. It's good to think about these things. How could we even imagine where we were going to be ten years from 2000. I think we definitely do take many things for granted as well. But it really is amazing how far we have come since 2000.

Toffler actually wrote about what we are seeing right now in Powershift: Knowledge, Wealth and Violence at the Edge of the 21st Century (1990).

Love this post. It's hard to believe that Alvin Toffler wrote Future Shock in the 70's. If that was shock, what would be the term for this past decade?
Have to say that all in all I've enjoyed the ride...and I can't wait to see what comes next!
Happy holidays and a very happy new year!

Again, what are we going to be talking about in 2019 that makes today seem so archaic?

What will we take for granted that we aren't even imagining today?

What does it mean when the line between imagination and action have become so short?

Hmmmm! As your students!

In 2000 I had just finished paying for a state of the art Leaf digital back for my 4x5 camera. This back had to be tethered to a computer (a Power Computing PowerTower) and took between 20 seconds to 5 minutes to capture an image. As I remember this was a resolution of about 5MP. I think I paid about $6000.00 for the camera back.
I’m looking at my cell phone and it has a 2MP camera in it. I got it free for renewing the contract with my carrier. I think I’ll check my DVR and see if Blade Runner is on it.

Very interesting, and accurate, post, David. It complements/echoes some of the sentiments I expressed recently, I think, in an article called Looking Back In Wonder (That We Achieved Anything At All) (http://www.ictineducation.org/home-page/2009/12/16/looking-back-in-wonder-that-we-achieved-anything-at-all.html). Am looking forward to your predictions :-)

Another fabulous post! In 2000, I had a mobile phone that was also a walkie-talkie (Nextel) and I used FirstAid to build my website (a souped up version of Notepad), so I guess I was state of the art, lol. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think 2010 will bring.
