I was chuckling to myself a little as I read this. This is the point at which I "met" you about three years ago when I started to read your blog, to comment and to write my own blog. You were at this point about "integrating technology." (Someday I'll find you at a conference and meet you in person - no NECC for me this year)

In this post you said, “It may be the way that we present the technology…" That’s what disappoints me the most about conferences these days. The presentation of the technology is all about the tool and not about the changes that are needed in pedagogy to do the kinds of things that Harry Tuttle is talking about.

A wiki is still a wiki, a podcast is still a podcast, a blog is still a blog and so on. It’s not the fault of the tools - they’re just there for us to use as we wish. If we use them as if they’re just a more public extension of the classroom then we’re probably still trying to integrate technology. If our teaching is focused on moving students to higher levels of thinking then we’re making some progress and the tools will definitely support that thinking.

David, thanks for this post. We adapted your hope for moving on from technology integration and used a quote as the lead in for our three day K-12 course in Yarmouth ME (http://summertech2009.yarmouthschools.org/june-23). Thanks! Hope to see you at NECC.

I found your posting to be real and insightful. Your conference sounds interesting and of value. I am in the process of gaining my teacher certification and am participating in an assessment course. I found several of your blogs to touch of the importance of assessment for many areas. This is the kind of thinking I want to bring to education. Integrating technology into the assessment piece is great to engage students in their learning and link teachers and content with the students.
